Description
The first official FIDE World Fischer Random Chess Championship is taking place from October 27 to November 2 in the Henie Onstad Art Center in Høvikodden, just outside the Norwegian capital of Oslo. The three online qualifiers Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So and Ian Nepomniachtchi join the unofficial Chess960 World Champion Magnus Carlsen in the semi-finals. A 3rd place match will be played alongside the final. The top prize is $125,000, with $75,000 for the runner-up, $50,000 for 3rd and $40,000 for 4th. Each match consists of 12 games at three different time controls. For the first four slow games the players have 45 minutes for 40 moves then 15 minutes to the end of the game, but no increment. There are 3 points for a win and 1.5 for a draw. Then there are four 15-min games with a 2-second increment, with 2 points for a win. Finally there are four 3+2 blitz games, with normal scoring. If the match is tied a 5 vs 4 Armageddon game will be played. Official website: www.frchess.com
